There are great restaurants to enjoy while you are here.
Coqui Fire — Walking distance from EcoCasa, Coqui Fire is a favorite spot for meeting friends for dinner. The menu is Mexican inspired, with an international flare and Bill makes his own hot sauces which you can also buy on their website. Sarah’s favorite dishes is a chicken taco salad accompanied by a glass of Planter’s punch and Mark likes… the dining is casual, and they have vegetarian and vegan options.
Crab Island Distillery — The Crab Island Distillery is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from noon to 8PM. They have a great food truck, entertainment, and a fabulous bar. Mark and I love the rums they distill there, particularly the orange infused and the coffee infused. Crab Island is out past the airport and is well worth the trip.
El Quenepo — El Quenpeo is our go to restaurant for a special meal, whether it is New Year’s Eve or an anniversary. It is an open-air restaurant in Esperanza that Kate and Scott have been running since 2007, where the food is excellent, and the chefs focus on locally sourced ingredients. We usually pick the special which is often freshly caught fish and enjoy with fresh vegetables and a nice glass of wine. All this while being while cooled by Caribbean breezes wafting in from the beach across the street. El Quenepo is Mark’s favorite. — http://elquenepovieque.com
Gonzo's Garden — Gonzo’s Garden is a great place for a casual meal right in the middle of Isabel Segunda. Our favorite meal there is the rice bowl with chicken or pork and a rum punch. On Wednesday night, when the kitchen is closed, they have happy hour and you can buy your dinner at the food truck which pulls up to the curb. Local musicians often come to entertain you, and we have had many a relaxing evening with friends at Gonzo’s.
Lizzie's Lunch Box — An absolute must, each tine we come to Vieques is a trip to Experanza to go to Lizzy’s for tacos. Her food truck sits in the parking lot at eastern end of the Malecon in Esperanza. Pork, fish, chicken, or vegetarian… take your pick. These taco’s are a real favorite and we have been trying to replicate them at home.
Tin Box — Situated halfway on the road between Isabel Segunda and Esperanza, Tin Box sits in the middle of the rain forest, surrounded by the organic gardens where they grow their vegetables. They are a smoke house specializing in ribs, chicken and pork and they have a sushi bar with fresh local fish. They have an excellent bar and Sarah really likes their margaritas. Eating here makes us feel like we are in the treetops. — https://www.facebook.com/TinBoxVQS/
